Lots of times very difficult things experienced in an individual’s life can result to causing trauma which can slowly grow into nightmares. An event that has left an impression in our lives for the worst can re-emerge as a nightmare. If a person is stressed at work, home or even financially this may haunt them sometimes as well converting into a bad dream. Nightmares can bring about some very disappointing feelings such as anger, fear, guilt and sadness. The brain is always working, no matter what it is always pumping blood and functioning, so even when you are asleep the brain is doing is job and sometimes it overworks and the ending result can be a horrible nightmare. And are some cases medications have been known to have side effects of nightmares or night sweats. Whether realized or not the brain is always aware of what it is that is going on, so this is why it’s very important to locate the root of the problem and find a solution.

It would be a good idea to research your sleeping habits. Maybe the position you are sleeping you can be a reason as to why you could be experiencing nightmares. Also, if large portions of caffeine are in someone’s diet it can be the leading cause of bad dreams. Caffeine give the body energy and at the end of the day once that boost of power has left our system our body begins to slow down causing fatigue and fatigue sets off nightmares. Having heavy meals before bed is also going to bring about an unhappy night! As mentioned before, the brain continues to function way after we have put ourselves down to rest and when food is in the system it works ten times harder trying to break down what is in our stomach, so changing what you do before you sleep is a great way in reducing this crisis.

Therapy is an excellent way to get over this problem. Speaking to a professional can help rid nightmares. A special type of therapy practiced at the University of Mexico is called, Imagery Rehearsal Therapy. This happens when the client is awake and faced with the issue that occurs in their dreams. Being awake give them the opportunity to handle the problem with a clear and conscious mind. This allows the nightmare to be less intimidating and easier for the matter to be addressed.

Topiramate, nefazodone, and gabapentin are all medications that require seeking the advice of medical doctor. There are limited medicines for curing nightmares however, the medicines mentioned have been used and been helpful to those suffering from PTSD (POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER) Medications can be a last resort if therapy or options at home haven’t been useful in curing bad dreams.

‘Can I get rid of my nightmares, ‘ should no longer be a question that haunts your mind. If the issues are dealt with regardless of what option is chosen nightmares can be conquered. If a nightmare is dealt with on a professional level or done at home by simply changing your sleeping habits then you are taking a step towards putting those bad dreams to rest for good while you sleep like a baby.
