What is snoring apnea, and how can you go about getting rid of this harmful habit? First off, snoring and sleep apnea are two separate things, but they are certainly connected, as one often times leads to the other.

Sleep apnea happens when you actually cease to breathe for a time while you sleep, and you only start after making a loud snorting noise. Often times, this is also come causes snoring, which is why many believe they are related.

For some there may just be the need for a higher quality of the bed that they are sleeping on. There are many serious health side effects of snoring and sleep apnea, let alone the fact that it can seriously affect those around you and prevent them from getting sleep. Apnea can also cause you to wake up feeling very tired, even if you’ve gotten eight hours of sleep, because you actually wake up each time you stop breathing and have to start again.

If you are overweight, you are more often than not a habitual snorer due to the extra fat layers around the neck. The extra fat will weigh down on the throat while sleeping, and the airway will be more constricted during the night hours because you are lying down and fully relaxed. There is also a direct linkage between unhealthy daily diets, the lacking of daily exercise, and even late night dairy products being consumed. It has been noted that extra mucus tends to build up from many dairy products leading to snoring.

Sleep apnea is more severe than snoring because snoring is where your airflow don’t have as much room to go through, but apnea is where the airways are blocked completely, and you actually have to wake up to resume breathing.

This is a common problem among the elderly population, because the throat muscles are less strong and therefore begin to sag and reduce the amount of room available for the air. A great way to stop this immediately is to eat healthier, and workout more to strengthen your muscles and eliminate fat.
