What Causes Insomnia Might Surprise You

At some point in our lives, we all experience trouble getting to sleep at night. Identifying he cause of your insomnia trouble is probably at the front of your mind, when you can’t sleep. Insomnia causes aren’t that easy to identify, though, since there are a lot of them. For example, there are mental issues and physical issues, any of which could create sleeping troubles. Another big physical factor is illness. Among the illnesses that cause sleep problems are arthritis and Parkinson’s Disease. Sleep apnea, which causes you to stop breathing for small amounts of time while you sleep, and acid reflux can also cause insomnia.

As far as the psychological causes for sleep loss go, stress is a major factor. If you’re stressed about a certain upcoming event, it can cause a temporary insomnia problem. You might just be one of those people who is constantly worried about things, though. If that’s the case, you may find yourself dealing with sleepless nights more often than not.

Insomnia can also be caused by a panic attack or general anxiety over something specific and recurring. A visit to the doctor or the dentist is one example of something like that. So, you could have a seriously hard time sleeping before such things take place.

Another psychological cause for insomnia is clinical depression. If your mind is constantly sad and worried, after all, it can be impossible to sleep.

There are also temporary causes for insomnia to think about, aside from all that. Things that you drink and eat, for example, can play a role. Alcohol, sugar and caffeine, for example, can all stimulate your system and perk you up, rather than letting you pass out.

Jet lag and certain medications can also be insomnia causes, but a couple of the top causes are just plain old light and noise. So, be sure to create a quiet sleeping environment by turning off extra lights and sounds. It can really help you to get to sleep quicker and stay asleep longer.
